NEUROFEEDBACK

Neurofeedback, also known as EEG Biofeedback, is a type of therapy that teaches patients to stay calm and focused by improving how their brain operates. It is a non-invasive treatment that involves placing numerous electrodes on the top of a patient’s scalp. The electrodes are then used to read the patient’s brainwaves using an electroencephalograph (EEG) and are displayed in real time over a computer monitor. During Neurofeedback training we use this data to teach patients how to regulate their brain to “normal” patterns all on their own. Essentially, neurofeedback treats the brain like a muscle as it teaches it to be stronger and healthier.

As a clinician, Dr. Alvarado believes it is extremely important to look at other interventions before considering medications. Neurofeeback is a non-invasive treatment that does not have any side-effects.

In October, 2012 the American Academy of Pediatrics rated neurofeedback as a Level 1 “Best Support” Intervention for ADHD; this is the highest possible rating and at the same level as medication treatment and behavior therapy.

Neurofeedback has shown to be successful for numerous disorders including (studies linked):
ADHD
Anxiety
Depression
